Perigi Batu Pahat @ Batu Pahat Well

My father loves eating Nasi Briyani at a particular restaurant in Batu Pahat. My hometown is about 1 hour and a half drive from Batu Pahat but because of the amazing taste of the rice, my father could endure the long drive. Initially our family planned to visit my relatives there after enjoying the delicacy but we lost our way and found the beach. After enjoying the walk along the beach for some time (I have not been to one for such a long time!), I accidentally met a well. It is called Perigi Batu Pahat (Batu Pahat Well).

Although I have been a Johorean for all my life, I have never really known the actual history of Batu Pahat. By the way, my most hated subject in school was history. I always slept during the class and being reprimanded by the teacher was a norm. ^^

Ok..back to the history of Batu Pahat. How it got its name?

According to the updates by Malaysian Tourism Info etched on the plaque - ”Located along the shore at Minyak Beku near the mouth of the Batu Pahat River, the well was said to have been dug by fleeing Siamese troops after a failed attack on Malacca during the reign of Sultan Mansur Syah, the third Sultan of Malacca who ruled from 1446 to 1459. The Siamese soldiers chiselled a hole in the rock until water flowed. The soldiers, who were being pursued by Malacca forces under Bendahara Tun perak, fled south and sailed back to Siam (Thailand) via the South China Sea. The district of Batu Pahat takes it name from the incident. Batu Pahat means chiselled stone.”

I love the surrounding. It has the untouched and full of privacy feeling.

I feel that the water in the beach is much cleaner than the well ^^

The beach is just next to the Batu Pahat Well
